Free SAT/ACT Software for Military Families

In association with the Department of Defense (DoD), eKnowledge LLC announces that a group of NFL, NFL Europe, AFL and CFL football players, represented through the Victory Sports Group Agency, is donating several million dollars worth of SAT and ACT test prep programs valued at $199 each to families in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard for the school year 2005-2006. Through this sponsorship, active duty, National Guard, Reserve, and retired military personnel can obtain eKnowledge's $199 SAT/ACT Standard Power Prep program(s) and the $199 fee is waived. Families who request the program(s) pay only shipping & handling costs associated with the request. Servicemembers may request as many programs as they need for the students in their lives.

To facilitate ordering, DoD has created a secure website through its Military Homefront site to quickly verify a person's military status before linking them to the software ordering site. You may access the verification and order pages by clicking here .

Programs ship to domestic U.S. addresses and APO addresses. The sponsorship covers the regular purchase price of $199 and the family pays only the shipping and handling. The programs have a one-year license and are intended for the sole individual use of students on their personal home or laptop computer and are not intended for group or classroom instruction through the schools.

NMFA applauds this donation and the support shown by the players and the Victory Sports Group Agency for military families.

Fit Factor Program . . .

Davis-Monthan AFB Youth Center- Are you ready to Get Up, Get Out and Get Fit!  The US Air Force Services will launch Fit Factor, a new youth fitness initiative that encourages physical activity, healthy eating selections and rewards youth between the ages of 9-18 years old for their efforts.  Fit Factor will stimulate interest and awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyle choices and encourage youth to Get Up, Get Out and Get Fit!

The goal of the Fit Factor program is to encourage healthy choices and teach youth to value their lives.  Being healthy and fit will put youth in touch with their bodies, increase their self esteem and help them establish the desire to set personal goals.  The most important aspect of any exercise program is that it be fun!  Fit Factor is an exciting web based program that will reward youth for being active and making healthy choices everyday.

According to the US Surgeon General, Vice Admiral Richard M. Carmona, “As a society, we can no longer afford to make poor health choices such as being physically inactive and eating an unhealthy diet; these choices have led to a tremendous obesity epidemic.”  Fit Factor encourages youth to be physically active for at least sixty minutes each day through a variety of activities.  This program promotes activities for every ability level and interest from star athlete to couch potato.

Fit Factor offers five exciting levels for youth to complete as they participate in any physical activity.  The Fit Factor levels are: Energy, Strength, Agility, Adventure and Endurance.  Prizes will be awarded to youth as they accomplish each new level.  In addition to having fun, winning prizes and getting fit, Fit Factor will also encourage youth to

  • be physically active for at least sixty minutes each day

  • make healthy eating and lifestyle choices

  • incl friends & family participation in fun physical activities games

  • limit the amount of screen time (TV/PC) they log each day

  • adopt healthy exercise routines, including a broad range of physical and leisure-time activities

It is important that we provide our youth the opportunity to be active everyday, teach them to make informed nutritional choices and encourage a healthy lifestyle at all times.  The effects will last a lifetime!  The US Air Force Services program, Fit Factor will play a major role in keeping our youth healthy and in shape as they Get Up, Get Out and Get Fit!

Fit Factor will be introduced via a worldwide kickoff on 1 Oct 05 at every Air Force Base Youth Center.  Join in the fun!  Activities, games and registration will take place on Saturday, 1 Oct 05.  Contact or visit your local youth center for more information. Congressional Award Program . . .

The Congressional Award is a public partnership created by Congress to promote and recognize achievement, initiative, and service in America’s youth. The CAP provides a unique opportunity for young people to set and achieve personally challenging goals that build character and foster community service, personal development, and citizenship. This program is open to all 14-23 year olds, military or civilian. Participants may earn Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Certificates and Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas: volunteer public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration. Each level requires a minimum number of hours and is carried over to the next level.

Air Force Youth Programs and Community Center Programs coordinate the Congressional Award, a non-competitive program which recognizes excellence in initiative, achievement, and service among young persons ages 14 - 23. Youth are challenged to set goals in:

  • Voluntary Public service
  • Personal Development
  • Physical Fitness
  • Expedition or Exploration

To find out more about the program, teens (ages 14-17), may contact the Youth Center at 228-8844 and individuals (ages 18-23) can contact the Community Center at 228-3717 or visit the CAP website at www.congressionalaward.org/congress
